Snorkeling in New Zealand

Welcome to Stewart Island, a small island at the very south of New Zealand. Although it is mostly known for its hiking tracks and variety of birds, its marine life is genuinely surprising. The warm subtropical waters mixed with cool subantarctic waters in the currents around the island makes this place even more special, as you meet its unexpected inhabitants while swimming through the giant kelp. 3 marine reserves were created around Oban and the tiny Ulva Island, to provide a safe place for fish, shellfish, sea lions, and other sea birds. Not much fishes were around on this day, however, extraordinary creatures seemed to be waiting for us to say “Hello”! Snorkeling on Stewart Island was the highlight of this trip!
